I'm Alyssa, the artist behind Opal + Birch. I started this creative journey in 2020, turning my passion for art into a business that reflects my love for nature, adventure, and craftsmanship. From my home studio in White Bear Lake, Minnesota, I create pottery, jewelry, photography, and design pieces inspired by the natural world. My pottery features organic textures and earthy tones, while my handcrafted jewelry incorporates natural stones and materials that echo the beauty of the outdoors.

As a lifelong rock collector, I’ve always appreciated these unique pieces of the earth. Over the years, I’ve expanded my passion by offering a collection of authentic crystals, fossils, minerals, and meteorites—sourced from trusted suppliers and collectors or hand-mined by me. It feels like an extension of my artistry—just like my pottery and jewelry, these natural treasures tell a story. Now, I’m excited to share this collection through the Rock Shop on my site, offering pieces that are as special and meaningful to others as they are to me.

I’m always chasing inspiration—whether it's exploring new places, hunting for rocks and crystals, or capturing moments with my camera. When I’m not creating, you’ll find me at the lake, volunteering with my dog, thrift store shopping, re-purposing furniture, or hanging out with with friends, family or my husband Mike and our three dogs—Filius, Albus, and June.

Opals have always captivated me—the way they catch the light, revealing flashes of color, feels almost magical. As my birthstone, they hold personal meaning, symbolizing creativity, transformation, and the beauty of change.

Birch trees remind me of the North. Born in Alabama and raised in Minnesota, I feel connected to them—we both have roots here. They symbolize renewal, strength, and growth, reflecting life’s continuous evolution.

Together, opals and birch trees represent transformation, inspiration, and a deep connection to nature—values that shape both my art and my journey.
